Prof. Dr. Thomas Prohaska
Thomas Prohaska has been Professor of General and Analytical Chemistry at Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria, since 2018.
He studied technical chemistry at the Technical University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1995 with distinction. In the same year he became a research associate at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) Vienna and was responsible for setting up a laboratory for elemental and isotope analysis.
From 1998 to 2000 he was as researcher at the EG joint research center IRMM in Geel, Belgium, where he acquired a strong background in metrology.
After his return to BOKU, he set up a research laboratory for isotope research based on MC ICP-MS with the Austrian START Prize for Chemistry. Until 2018 he was associate professor at BOKU and since 2018 he has been full professor at the Montanuniversität Leoben.
His current research focus is on elemental and isotopic analysis using mass spectrometry, chemical imaging and metrology with more than 160 peer-reviewed publications.
Due to his long rated engagement in teaching, he was elected vice rector responsible for teaching, digitalization and international affairs in October 2023.
