Interns from Kazachstan

We are pleased to announce that from January this year, as part of the “500 Young Scientists of Kazakhstan” internship program financed by the “Bolashak” foundation, we are hosting two PhD students: Mr. Aidyn Orazov and Ms. Shynar Tustubayeva.

The main goal of the program is to develop support for young scientists from Kazakhstan in acquiring knowledge and improving skills in conducting scientific research. The individual research plan of doctoral students concerns endemic species of the Prunus genus, occurring in the Tarbagatay Mountains in the eastern part of Kazakhstan. This research is aimed at understanding their ecosystem function, diversity and environmental factors affecting the range of these species.

Using modern research methods, PhD students are responsible for, among others: developing innovative methods of protecting this species. Doctoral students also have a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of natural sciences; will include, among others: participate in workshops with employees of the Faculty of Biology covering various fields of knowledge, such as bioinformatics, evolution, plant ecology and geography, plant biochemistry and advanced methods of chemical analysis.

The entire program is aimed at preparing young scientists to perform advanced research by acquiring both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills. During their stay in Poland, the interns will work under the supervision of prof. Małgorzata Suska-Malawska (head of the Laboratory of Biogeochemistry and Environmental Conservation) and Dr. Monika Mętrak (Laboratory of Biogeochemistry and Environmental Conservation).

We wish our interns every success in the scientific field and an unforgettable stay in Poland!
