Radiochemistry for Medicine and Industry

Description of the Group

This group is equipped with modern and unique instrumentation, which enables them to conduct research on a world-class level in molecular imaging, compounds marked with radioisotopes and materials used in electrochemical power sources.This instrumentation consists of: PET/CT/SPECT scanner (three modules), hot chambers, isotopic generators for synthesis and portioning of isotopically marked compounds (i.a. 18F, 64Cu, 68Ga), quality control system for radiopharmaceuticals, X-ray fluorescence EDXRF spectrometer for qualitative and quantitative studies of sample composition, equipment for spectroelectrochemical research (UV-VIS spectrometers, potentiostats), potentiostats, galvanostats and testers for accumulators and batteries.

Research Activities

Research services

Considering the interdisciplinary profile of this group, cooperation options are dedicated to i.a. biologists, pharmacists, doctors, veterinary doctors, chemists etc. The research group offers possibilities of designing and performing studies on:

  1. application of isotopic and optical imaging (PET, SPECT) in research on biodistribution and metabolism of medicines, in monitoring disease development (oncology, neurology, cardiology, bone diseases, autoimmunological diseases, infections and inflammations) by use of small laboratory animals (mice, rats),
  2. in radiochemical syntheses using 18F isotope and metallic isotopes e.g. 64 Cu, 68 Ga,
  3. electrochemical properties of materials used in electrochemical power sources,
  4. performance of electrochemical and UV-VIS spectroelectrochemical organic and inorganic systems in water and non-water solutions,
  5. tests of accumulators and batteries.

Moreover, the group is willing to organize trainings, conferences, science and educational workshops, helping to understand ionizing radiation and electrochemical power sources.

Team Leader

Zbigniew Rogulski is the author of 40 publications in international scientific journals. He holds several patents and has multiple patent applications pending in fields of energy storage and radiochemistry. His great commitment and scientific contribution have been recognized at numerous innovation exhibitions by ten gold and seven silver medals. He received prestigious research team awards including the Competition for the Polish Prod[1]uct of the Future, the Prime Minister Award for Scientific and Technical Achievements, the International Federation of Inventors Associations Award for “Recycling technology of zinc-carbon and alkaline batteries”. He won individual Prime Minister’s Award for the outstanding doctoral dissertation and two other prestigious research awards of W. Kemula and A. Grabowski.
