DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUP

This group is interested in ecology of aquatic, wetland, steppe, xerothermic grassland and forest ecosystems, with regard to typical vascular plant and bryophyte species. Thorough knowledge on functioning of these ecosystems can be used as the basis of their conservation.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Examining environmental gradients, especially physico-chemical ones, determining differentiation and dynamics of vegetation plays a crucial role in our research. Moreover, we are interested in mechanisms of productivity limitation through reduced availability of biogenes (N,P,K). We also focus on bioindication, expansion and removal of invasive species, biogeography of environmental islands, such as kurganes in ploughed steppes of Ukraine, species-rich non-forest ecosystems and urban habitats. We actively work for environmental conservation, especially conservation of endangered species and their habitats. We carry out field studies in Poland and in other countries of Europe and Asia.
