Members of the Laboratory of Biomolecular Chemistry focus on:

  • enzymatic synthesis of halogeno-derivative of aromatic aminoacids (L-tryptophane, L-tyrosine, L-phenyloalanine, L-DOPY), aliphatic aminoacids (L-alanine) and biogenic amines marked with hydrogen isotopes,
  • research on mechanisms of enzyme-catalyzed metabolic reactions of halogeno-derivatives of aromatic aminoacids, aliphatic aminoacids and biogenic amines with the use of isotopic methods (KIE and SIE).

Recently, there has been increased interest in the production of aminoacids marked with short-lived isotopes, emitting β+ radiation (11C, 13N, 18F), and their application in nuclear medicine, especially positron emission tomography (PET). Marked aminoacids are used in diagnostics of neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, and in research on metabolisms of pharmaceuticals.
